Registered Dietitian
WORK HOURS:        8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M., 80 bi-weekly, requires evenings and weekends

 POSITION SUMMARY:      To provide Head Start children and families with nutritional needs, diet restrictions and current health plans to develop and implement dietary care plans and provide nutritional support to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and CAA policies

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Under General Direction:

  1. Oversee and implement all duties related to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  2. Monitor and access children with nutritional needs.
  3. Advise families on nutritional principles, dietary plans and diet modifications and food selection for children both over and under weight.
  4. Access anthropometrics results and provide parent/guardians with nutritional information based on the results.
  5. Work closely with community resources to ensure the coordination of services.
  6. Advocate in the community for appropriate services for children with nutritional needs.
  7. Assist in the development, documentation and implementation of the Health Services Content Area Plan.
  8. Maintain a resource library of materials for training and circulation, such as pamphlets, fact sheets, etc.
  9. Assist with the training, coordination of outside agencies, and the community for parents and staff, to ensure skill development that meets the special nutritional needs of the identified children.
  10. Provide Grantee training and technical assistance for staff in the area of nutrition and dental care.
  11. Provide Grantee support to the Health Services Advisory Committee.
  12. Provide Grantee support for the self administered cooks.
  13. Attends Grantee and self administered parent meetings to dissemble information on nutritional and healthy eating for the family.
  14. Build and maintain community partnerships with health agencies serving Head Start families.
  15. Write, review and approve menus for the grantee.
  16. Create menus for self administered and monitor for compliance.
  17. Purchase food in accordance with health and safety codes (State, Local Health Department).

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (cont’d):

  1. Provide T/TA for dental and nutritional issues across the Grantee.
  2. Monitor and enter nutritional information for compliance into agency data base.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normally a typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues, but also includes occasional local travel, including exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather conditions, and occasional environmental hazards.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent must have:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or a closely related field approved by the American Dietetic Association.
  2. Registered Dietitian in the State of Ohio.
  3. Three (3) years of professional experience as a dietician in an educational environment.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of diverse cultures.
  5. Proficient computer experience in Microsoft Office applications.
  6. A valid driver’s license and insurance.
  7. Experience working with diverse populations, including low to moderate-income families.
  8. Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties required.
  9. Willingness to accommodate planned and/or unplanned travel to and from C-HCCAA or meeting/conference locations, including overnight and/or out of town travel.
  10. Ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation:
  11. Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment;
  12. Walk, bend, kneel, and reach;
  13. Lift a 20-60 lb. child, using all safety precautions;
  14. Talk, hear, and communicate with parents;
  15. See and be able to read, write, and interpret written documents.
